Monday Musings 8.22.16

Another hectic week, busy, sweet, sad all mixed into one, with too much tiredness to explain. A quick overview: I went to the beach, got into Korean dramas, kept working on the hardwood, and am prepping for back to school. I go back on Saturday!

Current watchings…

Suits– I am watching the sixth season right now. Still unsure of what to think, though I do like the novelty of Mike’s situation in prison.

Oh My Venus – A friend recommended this to me and so far, I’m hooked! Oh my Venus is about a girl who gains weight as she gets older, so seeks out a personal trainer to help her lose the pounds. Eventually, they fall in love.

Current loves…

  • Winter melon

Winter melon beginning to spring up as little fuzzy beans. They grow up to be around 20 or 30 pounds, so I hear. I’m pretty excited for what’s to come!

  • Also love this article from Miss Moss regarding what to buy from ASOS. It turns out I love her style, also its so much nicer when other people filter out your favorite clothes for you 😉

Current pictures…

Love how bright and happy the umbrellas are

Current intentions…

  • try and read some articles in the New York Times and keep up to date with the world
  • exercise around 30 minutes each day
  • spend around 30 minutes each day reading the Bible, praying, and doing devotionals

Monday Musings 8.15.2016

Apologies for missing a week, but the amount of stuff that I have had in general these past two weeks has been ridiculous. To sum it up shortly, I finished up my physics classes at UD on Friday, emceed at the Chinese Festival of Delaware on Saturday, and have been working straight since then on my family’s installation of hardwood upstairs. I also go back to school in less than two weeks, so I’m starting to organize myself and figure out what I need to bring and prepare for. Some highlights I suppose…

my favorite picture …

Podcasts for later…

Gastropod – for all things food related

Come Reason – Christian apologetics!

Movies…

watched The Imitation Game – really good, Benedict Cumberbatch is the best and such a good celebration of the life of Alan Turing

want to watch When Harry Met Sally – am trying to get into good, old romantic comedies again

All things Chinese Festival!

IMG_5818IMG_5812IMG_5833

Such a good time emceeing for the first time (I’m the one in blue for all the pictures). It’s not one of my strong suits (being on stage), but I genuinely enjoyed it and had a good time with all the people. I also thought it was such a great way to give back to the Chinese community that I have been a part of for so many years.

Olympics!

  • my favorite sports to watch are swimming, gymnastics, and beach volleyball
  • you should check out the story behind Shang Chunsong if you have the chance
  • also, being from two different cultures, I’m blessed to always have a team to root for 🙂 go USA and go China! 🙂

Praying for …

  • me and Jason’s relationship
  • strength in installing hardwood
  • preparation for school

Monday Musings 7.18.16

Hi hi hi sorry sorry sorry what’s up what’s up what’s up?!!

Goodness, I took a 2 week break from posting and it feels so weird coming back and pretending like nothing has happened. But many things have happened. And I have been thinking quite a lot about this blog. Thus, I thought why not combine this and make Mondays a scheduled time for me to talk about random things going on in my life? This would be sort of like weekly favorites, but also including random happenings or pretty pictures that I took during the week. And yes, I suppose Monday Musings does not fit super well but the alliteration! Gosh the alliteration, I’ll deal with the slight misnomer 😉

Anyways, to the juice…

Reading …

the sacred search – gary thomas

all about marriage and dating from a Christian perspective

crazy love – francis chan

what does it mean to be loved by God?

I’m reading the first one with a little accountability group. It’s cute and fun and I have never done something like this before, especially with girls in three different time zones, which is wild. I’m reading Crazy Love by myself and journaling. It’s been highly recommended and a huge Christian bestseller so I have huge expectations for it and am excited to get through it all. What’s interesting about these two books are that they were both gifted to me by two women that I admire so much in the Christian community. And especially Crazy Love, I had just been thinking about how much I wanted the book and that same day, she said that she wanted to give it away because she and her husband had finished reading it. Nuts right?

Enjoying …

Watching…

finding dory , central intelligence, legend of tarzan, alice through the looking glass

I have been watching so many movies this summer. Such a great way to hang out. Got to say, I think I liked Finding Dory and Legend of Tarzan the most. Finding Dory because I felt like the movie was just supposed to be liked. Obviously, it was super well known because of Finding Nemo, but they really brought out the acceptance of disabilities aspect and also the humor factor so much in this one that I really loved it. I also enjoyed Legend of Tarzan, but that may just have been because I think Margot Robbie is a beautiful woman and Alexander Skarsgard a handsome man.

Random pics that I love …

Favorite Fashion Bloggers (III)

  1. Drea ChongScreen Shot 2016-04-20 at 4.44.58 PM.png

Aside from the fact that Drea is absolutely beautiful, I really love the effort she puts into her work. Unlike some other bloggers out there that just post pictures of themselves that their photographers took of them, she goes through each of her work and edits them and organizes them in ways that are interesting and different. For example, in the picture above, the level of graphic design skill and attention to detail that she possesses is absolutely incredible.

  1. Grace & BeautyScreen Shot 2016-04-20 at 4.45.39 PM.png

One of the reasons why I follow Cyndi Spivey’s blog despite the fact that I am not over forty years old is that I really enjoy her humble and genuine spirit in addition to her fashion sense. A fellow Christian, I really love her Sunday musings and the way she weaves in conversations about her faith in the blogosphere as well as in creating her own personal fashion style.

  1. Gary Pepper GirlScreen Shot 2016-04-20 at 4.46.15 PM.png

Pretty sure if I met Nicole Warne in real life, I would probably be straight up intimidated. This woman is a powerhouse businesswoman and the professional quality of her blog is so incredible, its probably unattainable for us normal users 😥 I love the way she styles herself and chooses not to wear just anything, but really unique pieces of high quality. She opens the doors to a whole new set of unexplored designers for us to look at but perhaps not buy from.

Artsy Instagrams

I just wanted to share some of my favorite Instagram accounts to follow right now 🙂 These people are just so creative and talented!

  1. Esther LeeScreen Shot 2016-04-05 at 11.32.34 PM.pngEslee is a photographer. Thus, it’s obvious her pictures are consistently perfectly in every way. They all give off a pleasing peaceful aura. Also, love her pictures of fruit 🙂
  2. Jennet LiawScreen Shot 2016-04-05 at 11.33.40 PM.pngDiscovered this Instagram through Wong Fu, but seriously, how talented is Jennet Liaw? She does typography and lettering for Nike, but I just love how she manipulates text. Making it look pretty is one thing, but making it punny? Sleek? Clever?  Such a breath of fresh air.
  3. Samantha LeeScreen Shot 2016-04-12 at 11.11.18 PM.png

Love love love Samantha Lee’s motivation for her beautiful Instagram – to make beautiful and appetizing food for her kids! I’m so amazed by her decoration and her creativity. Also, so fun to decipher which foods she used to make her ultimate image. 🙂

  1. RedhongyiScreen Shot 2016-04-05 at 11.33.17 PM.pngRedhongyi was someone I discovered simply through other people when looking for artsy instagrams. For her, her instagram is not so much the art product but the display for her art. She works with anything except for the traditional art tools, pencil, paint, etc. to create beautiful images. You see the bear on the left? Completely out of celery sticks.
  1. Li-Chi PanScreen Shot 2016-04-05 at 11.33.02 PM.pngI think what works for LiChi Pan is her use of the same filter for extraordinary pictures of food. Absolutely insane the different types of food she posts, but I suppose that’s why it makes it interesting and delicious.

Favorite Home/Lifestyle Blogs

I’m not an adult with a family of any sort. I don’t have my own house or kids or fantastic interior design skills. Nonetheless, here are two home/lifestyle blogs that I am absolutely obsessed with below!

  1. Love TazaScreen Shot 2016-03-24 at 5.50.31 PM.png

I love love Love Taza. Its a lifestyle blog about a woman called Naomi who lives in New York with her husband and three kids. She mainly posts about their adventures in different places in the city or events they go to in other states or random activities they do at home. Not particularly informative in my opinion, but I think Naomi’s positive attitude towards everything (not to mention her fantastic dress sense) is really something that should be admired and emulated.

  1. Oh Dear DreaScreen Shot 2016-03-24 at 5.50.48 PM.png

Florida-living hippy Drea posts primarily about her little family, her plants, her lifestyle, and her food habits. A vegan raising a kid vegan, I find her posts about food, animal care, environmental treatment particularly inspiring (even though I am not a vegan myself). I personally always look forward to her “What Marlowe Eats” posts that really open up my mindset about the seemingly limitless options of food combinations that exist out there, even as someone who is limited in their food selection.

Christian Songs (I)

I have sort of given up listening to music while in college simply because I am too busy and music detracts from my productivity, but the other day I pulled out my Spotify worship playlist and felt that I really needed it in my life right now. A couple of my absolute favorites 🙂

  1. How He Loves – David Crowder Band

2. You are Holy – Michael W. Smith

3. From the Inside Out – Hillsong

4. Blessed be Your Name – Matt Redman

5. You Make me Brave – Bethel Music
