I was asked to do this commission for a group of girls in my fellowship for when they went on an overnight stay-retreat. It’s taken from a website called Naptime Diaries that does a lot with Bible verses and pretty posters 🙂 This was my first attempt, clearly, as it looks pretty rough and also unfinished as I didn’t completely outline all that I needed to. Technically speaking, I need to work on the lettering for everything that isn’t in cursive and also take note that you cannot simply watercolor on regular cardstock. 😛 I will also probably redo this and maybe do an update on it and see the progress I have made, which I think would be quite cool!
This verse to be honest did not strike me at first. Especially in recent times, with such tragedy all around us in the news and everywhere, I took it to mean something almost of a complacency with the world around us. But I don’t think that’s what it means. Now, it reminds me of the title of this blog, Still and Know, which for those that don’t know, is a reference to the Bible verse, “be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10.
Wait for the Lord because He will come to conquer all in the end, wait for him, be quiet and listen for him, because He is there. He is present, He will always provide. But more than that BE STRONG AND TAKE HEART. Have confidence in Him and what He can do. And be strong. Be courageous. Be all that you believe is right in the world, wait for the Lord, but also be in the world and do good onto it with belief in Him .
A series on some of the really nice graphic design/hand lettering work that I stumble upon in my daily life, I have a lot of these hanging on my wall for inspiration
City Church gave these out around Christmas, I believe, in order to encourage people to really branch out and believe in the spreading of churches across the New England area
The Yale Literary Magazine always does something funky every year. I believe they also try to incorporate the letters of the alphabet into the magazine, so I”m assuming that these abstract pieces can be manipulated into letters.
A sophomore in Yale Students for Christ designed this beautiful little invitation for a women’s celebration event that the men of YSC helped put together.
This is for a bi-semester Yale literature magazine Kalliope that had a really nice cover.
The Asian American Cultural Center had their annual cultural showcase. This was the poster designed for advertisement – it’s really very beautiful.
City Church gave these out for their new sermon series on the “unparalleled accomplishments of the Son of God” – really a beautiful series, I might add
And yet another segment of random pins on Pinterest. I haven’t been going on Pinterest lately – mainly only when I’m bored – but I still have a couple more random posts that I still really like and want to share with you all!
1. Decorated bottles
I think this is just simply really beautiful. I love the look of the clear glasses and the white flower designs on it. I also think that it is something that you could easily do yourself – just purchase glass bottles and white paint and just do your own thing and any way you do it, it would probably turn out amazing. Also, it probably has tons of uses – putting plants, flowers, etc. or just plain using them for decoration. I’m definitely adding this to my to-do list!
I love this image. And I think that’s why I’m so obsessed with design – the way they manage to smoothly incorporate such powerful ideas through just a simple manipulation – that’s art at it’s finest. I thought this one was particularly interesting for a telling message about obesity in America and the current issue about the guidelines towards purchasing soda drinks.
This is such a clever idea – use hangers to hang up your magazines rather than your clothes. This is such an industrial design maneuver… it’s fantastic. I think it would definitely make reading and organizing magazines more easier – I just need to actually have some magazines at my house to actually do this haha
Ahhhhh my weekly segment of random pins….
For some reason, I haven’t found anything I’ve particularly liked on Pinterest so far for a while. I feel like a lot of the things are repeats of things before, so that’s been quite frustrating.
1. Watercolor Flowers
I love all watercolor art, but my favorite types are those of flowers. Added that it’s on an old book makes it look that much more unique and fascinating.
2. Obsessed with designs, hand lettering, quotes.
I love the intricate designs that a nice black pen can make as it incorporates these beautiful shapes and images to represent a profound quote. Possibly something I could do too???
3. Clever Flower Pot
Such a creative idea – hollowing out old magazines and stacking it and storing flowers or plants in it – such a cool idea that would be lovely in all types of rooms as decor.
A couple days ago was the anniversary of my blog. I started my blog September 2013 and I am quite surprised that I am still continuing it. It originally started as a place for me to just express myself and to really just write for myself. However, on a whim, I decided to leave it public and encouraged browser searches because I wanted to know if someone would actually read my blog. The thought that one individual beside myself was wondering about the author, had the thought of me on their mind, even for just a second as they scrolled was astounding and mind blowing and not deterring at all (which varies a lot with types of people, I know).
A year later, my blog is still a place for me to express myself and to write for myself simply because all of my followers, or at least most of my followers, don’t know me at all! They may know things about me, my appearance or my style of writing, or the things I do, but they don’t know know me (if that makes sense). Therefore, everything that is expressed… well it doesn’t matter too much that they know because they can’t actually affect me emotionally, I suppose. At the same time, this blog has become something greater. It has been a place for me to share the things that I have never before shared – fashion, deep thoughts, style, pinterests of my favorite food, my love for watercolor. It has also become a place where I can try and encourage all those around me… to bring some sort of guidance and my own perspective on the world.
I realize now that my blog can be used for greater purposes than just my own personal thoughts. I hope to continue this effort of reaching out to people all over the world, so that they may laugh with me and cry with me, understand my thoughts, support the passionate organizations I support, or just bring to them a lovely, interesting article to read.
Here’s an interesting progression of how things have gone. Still really surprised as to why I suddenly got so many views in the last month on my blog, but that’s okay, I wont’ question it and just accept it and use it. Happy anniversary to me 🙂
